This plant will digest bugs. Pitcher plants have a thin slippery rim and light sweet inner smell to encourage bugs to slip into their trap. Once flies fall into their pitcher the fluid at the bottom of the plant will help to digest the bug. Nutrients from the bug will sit in the watery fluid. The plant will absorb these nutrients.
Pitcher plants thrive in a swampy environment, with high humidity and bright light. Keep the soil moist- not soggy. We recommend using rain water, distilled or purified. Do not use tap water.
They can tolerate bright light to low light levels, avoiding direct sunlight.
